Happy Valentine’s Day! A day that will bring you kisses, chocolate, sweet words, and precious memories. As all of your plans and preparations for this day start to come to life, don’t neglect good oral hygiene today. Here are a few tips to help you be ready for all of those future kisses with your special someone today:
Brushing and Flossing.
I know this may seem like an obvious tip, but it truly does help to resolve bad breath and get rid of unnecessary plaque. If you adhere to the recommended “rule” of brushing your teeth twice a day while also flossing daily, you will be removing the bad bacteria that grows and is a culprit of bad breath. Scraping your tongue when brushing is also recommended to prevent bad breath and make your mouth more healthy and kissable.
Drinking water and staying hydrated will further help to wash away all of the excess food and bad bacteria that grows in your mouth. Having a dry mouth will not only cause bad breath, but it can also lead to other dental issues too. Ditch the coffee, wine, and beer and replace it with water to keep your breath fresh all night long.
Avoid Smelly Foods.
You know that old saying, “You are what you eat”? That couldn’t be truer when it comes to food and bad breath. Avoid foods that have onions, garlic, and other strongly-flavored foods. Not only do these foods linger in your mouth long after your last bite, but they also travel through your bloodstream as you digest them.
Gums and Mints.
I don’t know about you, but I never leave home without my tin of mints. They come in handy throughout the day when I’m at work and not able to brush my teeth. There’s such a wide selection of gums and mints. Try to choose something that is sugar-free and has Xylitol in it to combat bad breath. Remember, this is only a temporary fix – but one that will do the job in a pinch.
Finding a good mouthwash will definitely help eliminate bad bacteria while also freshening up your breath. It’s important to find a mouthwash that has antimicrobial properties so your mouth is actually getting clean and you’re not just masking the odor. Avoid mouthwashes that have alcohol in them as they can cause dry mouth which will lead to bad breath.
As you daydream today about kissing your special someone, try to keep these tips in mind. Love your mouth and your reward will be fresh breath and a healthy smile (your partner will thank you too!).
